Animax Latin America Launch Site
Promotional website for a new Sony Entertainment Television anime channel.
2006
Sony Entertainment Television Latin America was replacing its Locomotion channel with Animax — a 100% anime programming channel. The launch needed a promotional site that matched the subversive, rebellious energy of anime culture rather than a standard corporate channel announcement.
I designed and developed the entire mini-site: a fictional clandestine mainframe for the FAA (Frente Aliado del Animé) — a revolutionary front 'taking over' the old channel. Users logged in as agents, browsed manifestos and archives, and explored the new channel's programming through a spy-themed narrative interface.
The promotional site disguised channel marketing as a clandestine operation
A standard 'new channel launching' announcement would have missed the audience entirely. Anime fans expected personality, not press releases. The site presented itself as a cracked mainframe terminal — the FAA's central nervous system — where visitors connected as operatives, read the revolutionary manifesto, browsed classified archives of upcoming programming, and registered as agents.
The interface used terminal typography, scan-line effects, and a fractured glass overlay to sell the fiction that users had hacked into something they weren't supposed to see.
Registered agents accessed a deeper layer of the experience
Users who registered as FAA agents got access to a second interface layer — a personalised agent profile with status, action codes, rank, and classified files. The archives section let agents browse anime series as 'mission dossiers', and the objectives section framed programming schedules as operational targets.
The entire member area maintained the clandestine narrative while delivering real content — programme information, schedules, and series details — through the fiction of a spy network.
