The gallery worked on a dead-simple principle: drop images into folders, and minishowcase would automatically generate a browsable gallery with categories, thumbnails, pagination, and a slideshow mode. No database setup, no admin panel, no configuration files to edit.

The interface was intentionally minimal — dark background, clean typography, and a sidebar gallery menu — so the images were always the focus. The welcome page was editable through a plain text file, keeping even customisation accessible to non-developers.

minishowcase supported multiple visual themes through a skinning system — each theme changed the gallery's colour scheme, typography, and layout while keeping the same underlying functionality. Users could switch between light, dark, and colour-accented themes without touching any code.

This made the tool versatile enough for photographers wanting a dark cinematic look, artists preferring a clean white gallery, or hobbyists who just wanted something that looked good out of the box.
